On the Western side of the Abby, St. Martin's Cross stands over 14' high and sits on a 2' base. Dating from the 8th century, some believing the 6th century. The cross has carved patterns, symbols and bibical scenes carved in it. Pilgrims would stop and pray at the base on their way to the abbey.
