The Siq is the entrance to Petra. It is almost a mile long and the walls will reach 597 feet in height and as narrow as 9.8 feet. The Siq is a fault split apart from a Tectonic event and not from erosion. Canals were carved along the sides, by the Nabataeans to bring water to Petra. Guards were also in place at certain areas to protect petra.
