The Reyniskirkja Church, built in 1929, sits on a hill above Vik i Myrdal Village. In the event of an eruption of Katla volcano and the melting of Myrdalsjokull glacier the village would be flooded. The church is believed to be a safe haven, as it sits on top of the hill, and plans for evacuation, to the church, are in place for the village.
