#0216 Ponte Vecchio
First built in Roman times and reconstructed in 1345 after being destroyed, for a second time, in 1333. The bridge still has shops, Jewelers, Art Dealers and souvenir venders, on it. The original merchants were Butchers. When the Germans retreated in Aug. 1944 this was the only bridge across the Arno River left in tact. Buildings on both ends were destroyed, but was easily cleared by the allies advancing across the Arno.
