The Parthenon was built on the Acropolis in the 5th Century BC to replace an older Temple of Athena destroyed in the Persian Invasion in 480 BC. It became a new Temple of Athena and treasury until it was converted into a Christian Church in the 6th Century AD. After the Ottoman Conquest in the 1460's it was converted into a Mosque.

Built for the religious rituals on the Acropolis in Athens Greece. It was started in 420 BC, but was not finished until 406 BC due to various state wars and revolts. Soon after it's completion Athens fell to the Spartans in 403 BC.
