Cairo Citadel, also known as the Salah Al-Din Citadel, was built by Salah Al-Din between 1176 and 1183 AD. The citadel housed the Egyptian Government until the 1860's. The Mosque of Muhammad Ali sits in the Citadel and was the largest structure built in the early 19th Century.
