The Citadel of Qaitbay was built around 1477 by Sultan Al-Din Qa'it Bay for defensive purposes on the Coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Alexandria, Egypt. It is considered one of the more important defensive forts on the Egyptian coast. After the Ottomans took over in 1512 it remained a fortress as it was located strategically in the harbor of Alexandria.
