In 1732 King Felipe V, of Spain, gave permission for a chapel and convent to be built in Buenos Aires. It was completed in 1732. In 1942 it became a Historical Monument and opened as the Historic Cloisters of Pilar in 1997 housing a museum of three stories with sculptures, paintings, furniture, books and religious clothing dating from the 14th to the 19th Century.
