Alsek Rafting
In 2007 National Geographic ranked the Alsek River as the number 1 white water river trip in the world. We went with NAHANNI RIVER ADVENTURES/CANADIAN RIVER EPEDITIONS, an outstanding company with top guides. We started on the Dezadeash river in the Yukon, which run into the headwaters of the Alsek. The Alsek runs thru part of the Yukon then British Columbia and crosses the Border into Alaska and ends up in Dry Bay, in the Gulf of Alaska. 130, or so miles, in tweleve days. You float by the largest Non Polar Ice cap in the world, and Kluane Park which has the highest density of Grizzley Bears in North America. Some areas of the river is almost two miles wide and has up to class 5 rapids. At Turnback Canyon, which has class 5+ rapids and non-survivable for rafts, you have a Helecopter Portage you and all the equiptment and rafts over the canyon to the other side.
